Train with Us
Our highly regarded training program provides Marriage and Family Therapy Trainees and Interns with the clinical skills and supervised hours necessary for MFT licensure in the state of California.
The work our Trainees and Interns do is driven by their interests, inspired by their specific goals for themselves as therapists, and carried out in a nurturing environment with the support of skilled and attentive supervision.
We value self-awareness, a sense of curiosity, and a deep desire to develop professionally and grow personally. Our program is designed to provide our Trainees and Interns with a wide range of clinical and practical experience preparing them for work in a community agency, as well as private practice. We do not limit the number of sessions that a client can receive, allowing our clinicians to learn skills required to build deep and transformative relationships with their clients.
Our clients seek counseling for a variety of reasons, and represent a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Some want help with relationship, occupational, and phase-of-life issues, while others seek help in working through depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and addictions.
The internship experience and supervised clinical hours received at Women’s Clinic Counseling Center are accepted by the Board of Behavioral Sciences toward meeting requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. The theoretical orientations of our supervisors embrace the most relevant teachings from a variety of orientations including: psychodynamic/object relations, Jungian, humanistic/existential, mindfulness practice, trauma informed, cognitive-behavioral, and expressive art therapy.
Trainees and Interns make a commitment of 17 hours a week for a period of at least eighteen months. This includes a minimum caseload of 8-10 client hours per week, individual and group supervision, training sessions, providing community advocacy via phone consultations, conducting intakes, and the availability to see clients at least one evening or for a minimum of three hours on a Saturday. A portion of these hours must be scheduled on weekdays during the day, and our program will not be a good fit for those with conflicting full-time work commitments.
