Our History
Founded in 1972, Women's Clinic is a dual service provider caring for the under-insured and working poor through the provision of reproductive health care and therapeutic counseling. At Women's Clinic we are dedicated to improving our clients' health status by promoting preventive care and delivering a coordinated system of quality services that treats the whole person, both physically and emotionally.
Since our inception we have provided services to over 300,000 clients. Over 86% of these clients were women between the ages of 20 - 44. Of those, 53% were living at or below 100% of the poverty level, 35% are living between 100% and 200% of the poverty level, 7% are living between 200% and 300% of poverty level, 2% are living between 300% and 400% of poverty level, and 3% make more then 400% of poverty. Most of our clients are medically indigent, uninsured working women.
At Women’s Clinic and Family Counseling Center we believe that health care and counseling services should be a right, not a privilege, and that all people should have access to help regardless of their ability to pay.
Our staff of medical professionals provides: cancer screenings, mammograms, contraceptive services, pregnancy testing, HIV testing, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, hormone replacement therapy, colposcopy, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), and ultrasounds.
Our counseling interns and trainees offer: ongoing psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families; HIV counseling; pre-marital counseling; group therapy; and a crisis hot line that operates during normal business hours.
Most often our counseling clients are struggling with such issues as: depression, anxiety, and life transitions.
It is the dedication of our Board of Directors, friends, staff, volunteers and those who believe passionately in our mission that allows us to provide these services and ensures our ability to continue to grow to be an effective, efficient and valuable resource for all of those in need.
